St. Louis Fed President James Bullard discussed the yield curve, inflation and monetary policy in an interview with Fox Business Network on Feb. 22.
Bullard reiterated his concern about a possible inverted yield curve. “I don't like the yield curve being as flat as it is. I’d like to see it be a little steeper,” he said. “To me that would indicate that markets saw a little more growth and a little more inflation going forward.”
In the interview, Bullard noted that inflation is still muted even though the U.S. economy surprised to the upside in both 2017 and 2018. “We've got inflation well under control here, and we don't need to be pre-emptive trying to control inflation going forward,” he said.
