Panel Discussion at Washington University in St. Louis

St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem participated in a panel discussion in St. Louis with two former St. Louis Fed presidents, Jim Bullard and Tom Melzer. The discussion, “The Past, Present, and Future of the Federal Reserve,” was co-hosted by Washington University’s Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government, and Public Policy and Purdue University’s Mitch Daniels School of Business.

More than 600 people attended the conversation about topics including the Fed’s dual mandate of maximum employment and stable prices, data the Fed uses to make decisions, the role of Reserve Banks, and the importance of Fed independence. Karen Branding of the Regional Business Council moderated the discussion.

The panel discussion kicked off President Musalem’s Sept. 29 visit to Washington University in St. Louis.

President Musalem then toured the campus and met with leaders from several areas of the university. Washington University is an anchor institution in St. Louis and one of the largest research universities in the United States.

President Musalem learned more about the role the university plays in health care; AI’s impact on patient care; groundbreaking scientific research; workforce and business leader development; and entrepreneurship. He spoke with leaders from the University’s Research Development Office, Olin Business School, McKelvey School of Engineering, Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the university’s School of Medicine.
