St. Louis Fed President Alberto G. Musalem (pictured below at right) participated in a fireside chat organized by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce as part of its Public Policy Speaker Series. Topics included the importance of hearing directly from people about their experiences in the economy, the role of Federal Reserve banks in local communities, the Fed’s dual mandate of maximum employment and stable prices, and the data the Fed uses to make decisions. Matt Morrow, president and CEO of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, moderated the discussion.

The fireside chat took place during President Musalem’s Oct. 9-10 visit to Springfield, Mo. President Musalem sat down with local business and community leaders for a roundtable discussion about the region’s economy. He also visited businesses and organizations, including the Springfield Underground, a former limestone mine that is now home to modern storage, warehouse spaces and distribution facilities and the nonprofit Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium.
