Serdar Birinci is an economic policy advisor in the Research division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, which he joined in August 2019. His research focuses on topics in macroeconomics and labor economics such as unemployment, job search, fiscal and monetary policy, immigration, and entrepreneurship. He received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Minnesota, where he taught macroeconomics and economic development and growth. He received a master’s degree in economics from Bogazici University and an undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Istanbul Technical University in Turkey. He has published his research in journals such as Review of Economic Studies, American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, American Economic Review: Insights, and Journal of Public Economics. Birinci has also discussed his research on media outlets such as CNN, Barron’s, and S&P Global.
