Michael Dong is an assistant professor of finance in the College of Business at Missouri State University, where he teaches portfolio management, financial management and derivatives to undergraduate and MBA students. He has been a research affiliate at Rice University and previously served as a faculty member at California State University Long Beach teaching investment and quantitative analysis.

Dong’s research areas include access to finance, household finance, news and market liquidity, and empirical corporate finance. His work seeks to understand how access to finance shapes socioeconomic outcomes, with particular emphasis on legal, institutional and social consequences for households and communities. One of his current projects examines the impact of access to finance, particularly consumer litigation funding, on individuals’ litigation decisions and broader outcomes in the civil justice system.

He has presented his research at leading finance conferences, including the American Finance Association annual meeting, and his work has been featured on The FinReg Blog of the Financial Economics Center at Duke University.

Dong holds a Ph.D. in finance from Rice University and an M.A. in finance from Tulane University.
