President’s Message: A Focus on Mission-Driven Public Service

Alberto Musalem is the president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

As president of the St. Louis Fed, one of the best parts of my job is connecting with people from all across the Eighth Federal Reserve District and the nation. Hearing directly from the people we serve helps us fully understand the economy and informs my views about the best path for monetary policy as we work to achieve the Fed’s dual mandate of maximum employment and price stability.

I also have the privilege of seeing firsthand the incredible work done by the people who are part of the St. Louis Fed. Every day, expert public servants are working to formulate monetary policy; foster a safe, sound and stable financial system; advance the nation’s payment system; promote consumer protection; support the U.S. Treasury as a fiscal agent; and help communities thrive.

This annual report is designed to provide a brief overview of that work. All of it is done in pursuit of a strong and resilient economy that works for all.
