St. Louis Fed Presents: Demographic Aspects of Inequality and Opportunity
ST. LOUIS ― Demography may not be economic destiny, but it is strongly related to financial outcomes. The St. Louis Fed's Center for Household Financial Stability looks at the relationship between wealth and different demographic characteristics; researchers examining the data through this lens can better illustrate the true state of wealth inequality in America.
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, William R. Emmons, assistant vice president at the St. Louis Fed and lead economist at the center, will explore the data and discuss how ongoing structural and systemic barriers may make it difficult to narrow the wealth gaps for some racial and ethnic groups. The presentation is part of Dialogue with the Fed, the St. Louis Fed’s free evening lecture series for the general public.
Following the presentation, Emmons will participate in a panel discussion with:
- Elena Delavega, associate professor of social work at the University of Memphis.
- David S. Waddell, chief investment officer with wealth strategy firm Waddell & Associates.
WHO: Douglas Scarboro, senior vice president and Memphis Branch executive, will make introductory remarks. Lowell R. Ricketts, lead analyst at the center, will moderate the discussion and facilitate an audience Q&A.
WHEN: 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16
WHERE: Memphis Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis
200 N. Main Street
Memphis, Tenn. 38103
