Delta Communities – Strategic Doing:
Moving Our Delta Communities Forward

Registration for this session is closed.

Date:  Thursday, May 11, 2017
Time:  10 a.m.-2 p.m. CT
Location: The Bank
123 East Second St.
Clarksdale, Miss. 38614 (map it)

Building on gatherings convened by the St. Louis Fed in Greenwood, Miss., and Helena, Ark., in 2016 and early 2017, an additional series of Delta Communities sessions will bring local leaders from both of those locations together to meet with new participants in Clarksdale for regional forums that will be held throughout the remainder of 2017 and into 2018. The next session will guide attendees through a Strategic Doing™ process aimed at building momentum for future work throughout the Delta region. Facilitated by the Stennis Institute at Mississippi State University, this session will arm attendees with the information they need to take practical steps to create stronger economic outcomes for households and communities across the Delta.

According to the Stennis Institute, Strategic Doing™ is a “process that guides not just strategy development, but implementation across organizational and political boundaries.” The institute and other community development organizations across the nation have found this to be an effective way of working with leaders to create actionable pathways that improve a community’s ability to work on complex issues.

Participants will be challenged to consider “What could we do?” to identify regional assets and resources that could be shared and opportunities that could be explored to improve economic outcomes in the Delta.  Five areas of work will be discussed: community development finance; financial access, capability and empowerment; housing and neighborhood development; small-business development; and workforce development.

Please note that each of the upcoming Delta Communities sessions will be held at The Bank in downtown Clarksdale. Participation is free; however, registration is required by Friday, May 5 for the first session, as space is limited. Lunch will be provided.
