Violeta A. Gutkowski is an associate economist in the Research division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, which she re-joined in June 2024, after joining in 2019. In the intervening years, she worked on the St. Louis Fed’s Community Development team, where she conducted nationwide and District-wide surveys to assess conditions of low- to moderate-income communities and the organizations serving them.
Currently, she focuses on analyzing economic conditions in the Eighth Federal Reserve District and writing the Bank’s Beige Book report on economic conditions. She received her Ph.D. in economics from Brown University in 2019 and a master's degree in economics from Universidad Torcuato di Tella, Argentina, in 2011. She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control and Economia LACEA Journal; she has also written extensively for general audiences.
