April 16, 2024

ST. LOUIS – The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis released its 2023 annual report, “Prices, Wages and Workers: The Recent U.S. Inflation Experience.”

In the report’s main essay, St. Louis Fed contributing authors and economists Fernando Martin and David Wheelock provide an overview of the rise and fall of U.S. inflation from 2021 to 2023. Other Bank economists present related research findings: Victoria Gregory explores the impact of inflation on workers’ wages, Serdar Birinci examines job switching and inflation dynamics, and Michael McCracken shares insights on inflation forecast horizons.

The report opens with a letter from Alberto Musalem, who became the Bank’s 13th president and CEO on April 2. It also includes a message from Carolyn Chism Hardy, chair of our board of directors, which offers a view from Main Street.

In the Our People, Our Work section, readers can learn more about the Bank’s impact on the Fed’s Eighth District and beyond through interesting statistics. Section topics include the number of currency notes inspected and educators trained at economic education workshops in 2023.
