St. Louis Fed Offers Virtual Personal Finance Camp
ST. LOUIS — Summer 2020 presents special challenges to parents and guardians, including keeping younger children occupied and engaged. The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is offering a free Personal Finance Virtual Summer Camp for children nationwide.
St. Louis Fed economic education experts have created special syllabuses for elementary students (grades 3-5) and middle school students (grades 6-8). Through videos, quizzes, online courses and Q&As, young learners will discover and apply essential concepts such as:
- how money works
- how to evaluate everyday decisions
- how savings and credit are used
“With many traditional summer camps disrupted out of caution for families’ safety, we wanted to offer busy parents a free, online curriculum to teach kids the fundamentals of personal finance and economics,” said Mary Suiter, economic education officer at the St. Louis Fed. “Research shows that children can develop their financial behaviors as early as age 7, so it’s vital to introduce financial literacy at a young age.”
This virtual camp is available any time from May 20 to Aug. 14. It is designed to last 1-2 hours each day, for five total days. The camp automatically tracks a child’s progress, and adults may follow along.
