Statement from St. Louis Fed on Nomination of Christopher Waller to Board of Governors

Today, President Trump formally nominated Chris Waller, executive vice president and research director at the St. Louis Fed, to be a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System to fill a currently unexpired term ending Jan. 31, 2030. Earlier this month, the White House announced the president’s intent to nominate Waller to the Board. Today’s announcement makes the nomination official.

Waller shared with Bank colleagues that he is “deeply honored by the president’s nomination and the opportunity to be considered by the U.S. Senate for this important post.”

In a note to Bank staff, St. Louis Fed President Jim Bullard said, “We’re thrilled that President Trump has nominated Chris Waller to the Board of Governors. Chris is an outstanding economist with a long macroeconomic research record and deep understanding of the Federal Reserve, FOMC and economy. If confirmed, he’ll be an excellent governor and voice at the policy table. On behalf of all of his friends and colleagues here at the St. Louis Fed, we wish him the very best.”

Chris Waller is a highly respected scholar, central banking and monetary policy expert, and professor. He is a member of the St. Louis Fed’s Management Committee. He joined the Bank in 2009, following a distinguished career in academia. He is widely published on topics of monetary policy and the macroeconomy.
