Despite recovery in many housing indicators, the homeownership rate continued to fall through mid-year 2016. Economist William R. Emmons will explore the question of whether we’re experiencing a permanent retreat from homeownership or simply the last stages of the historic crash in the housing market. Emmons is a St. Louis Fed assistant vice president and senior economic adviser at the Center for Household Financial Stability.

An audience question and answer session with a panel will follow the presentation. In addition to Emmons, the panelists are:

  • Daniel Davis, St. Louis Fed community development manager;
  • Carlos Garriga, an assistant vice president whose research focuses include housing markets and finance;
  • Don Schlagenhauf, chief economist at the center; and
  • Julie Stackhouse, moderator, executive vice president and managing officer of departments including Supervision and Community Development.
