Exploring Innovation 2010 Intros

Introduction | Speaker bios

Many public policy initiatives are grounded in the belief that the nonprofit sector is one of the most powerful instruments of change in our society. Indeed, viable communities require strong, well-capitalized and durable nonprofit sectors that use capital effectively. Innovative financial institutions and organizations are learning how to work together to connect lenders to investors, sometimes by creating new platforms and partnership structures.

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis held a public policy dialogue to discuss innovations in community economic growth and social development through the use of financial capital. The focus of this dialogue was on rethinking the nature of equity and debt, equity capital for nonprofits, and developing lending, investment and service strategies that improve access to capital in all communities, particularly in low- to moderate-income communities.
