With an aim of strengthening communities across the Arkansas and Mississippi Delta region, the St. Louis Fed launched the Delta Communities initiative in 2016 to build awareness through regional forums of promising tools and strategies for community and economic development. The meetings feature presentations from St. Louis Fed staff and regional and national representatives with experience in building and sustaining community and economic development efforts.
In 2016, the St. Louis Fed’s community development staff worked across the Delta region with meetings based in Helena, Ark., and Greenwood, Miss. These sessions focused on bringing together local leaders to build awareness of promising tools and strategies for community and economic development. The six regional forums in 2016 reached over 500 community stakeholders from across the Arkansas and Mississippi Delta region, focusing on topics such as understanding the credit environment for small-business development, the role of housing as an economic development driver, and sourcing financial resources for community and economic development.
In 2017, we continued to work across the Delta region, holding six sessions based in Clarksdale, Miss. We remain committed to engaging with our stakeholders to further strengthen communities across the Delta region, and are finalizing plans for 2018. Each meeting is free to attend, though registration is required. Registration opens approximately five weeks prior to the event. To register, visit our events page.
