Award-winning Resources from the St. Louis Fed

The Institute for Financial Literacy chose the standard personal finance curriculum developed by the St. Louis and Atlanta Federal Reserve Banks for its 2021 Children’s Education Program of the Year: General Award. The Excellence in Financial Literacy Education Awards were created to acknowledge innovation, dedication and the commitment of individuals and organizations.


The National Association of Economic Educators selected Jeannette Bennett, senior economic education specialist at the St. Louis Fed, to receive the 2021 Bessie B. Moore Service Award. The award recognizes individuals whose outstanding and dedicated service has had a significant impact on the delivery and enhancement of economic education.

The National Association of Economic Educators selected Andrea Caceres-Santamaria, senior economic education specialist at the St. Louis Fed, to receive the 2021 Rising Star Award. This award is to recognize an individual who has been a member of the economic education network for seven years or less. The purpose of the award is to identify someone who has “hit the ground running” and made extraordinary contributions to economic education programs or services early in his or her career in economic education.


The National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE) recognized several Econ Lowdown resources with 2021 Curriculum Awards of Excellence.


The National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE) recognized four Econ Lowdown lessons with 2020 Gold Curriculum Awards of Excellence and one Econ Lowdown lesson with 2020 Bronze Curriculum Award of Excellence.


The National Association of Economic Educators selected Scott Wolla, economic education coordinator at the St. Louis Fed, to receive the 2020 Bessie B. Moore Service Award. The award recognizes individuals whose outstanding and dedicated service has had a significant impact on the delivery and enhancement of economic education.


The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis’ Economic Education team received the international 2019 Central Banking Award for financial inclusion by Central Banking Publications in London. The award highlights the group’s efforts in engaging and supporting teachers around the world through financial literacy tools and education.


The National Association of Economic Educators selected Mary Suiter, assistant vice president and economic education officer at the St. Louis Fed, to receive the 2019 John C. Shramm Leadership Award. The award is given to an economic educator whose leadership has had an extraordinary, positive impact at both the state and national levels.


The National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE) recognized eight Econ Lowdown lessons with 2019 Gold Curriculum Awards of Excellence:


Econ Lowdown received the 2018 Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Award for Children’s Education Program—General. The award was given for Girl Scout Financial Literacy Badges Made Easy.



The National Association of Economic Educators selected Mary Suiter, assistant vice president and economic education officer at the St. Louis Fed, to receive the 2018 James O'Neill Economic Education Multiplier Award. The award is given to an economic educator who has been successful at developing teachers of economics and inspiring these teachers to be advocates, recruiting other teachers into the economics fold.

In addition, an NAEE Silver Curriculum Award was given for Econ Lowdown lessons Personal Finance Conversations: Car Insurance and The Production Possibilities Frontier Video: Scarcity and Opportunity Cost.


Econ Lowdown received the 2017 Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Award for Children’s Education Program—General. The award was given for Page One Economics: Focus on Finance and Making Personal Finance Decisions, curriculum created with the Minnesota Council on Economic Education.


The National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE) recognized eight Econ Lowdown lessons with 2016 Gold Curriculum Awards of Excellence:

In addition, a NAEE Bronze Curriculum Award was given for the Econ Lowdown lesson 10 FRED Activities in 10 Minutes.


The National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE) and the Council for Economic Education selected Mary Suiter, assistant vice president, and Barbara Flowers, coordinator, both with the St. Louis Fed's Economic Education team, to receive the 2015 Abbejean Kehler Technology Award for their leadership in developing Econ Lowdown. The award is given to NAEE members who use technology to build stronger networks for economic educators and improve the efficiency of delivering training programs for teachers.

In addition, numerous NAEE Curriculum awards were given to Econ Lowdown lessons. The Fractile vs. Equal lesson received the Platinum Award. The following lessons received the Gold Award: Old Hat New Hat; It's Your Paycheck!; The Arsenal of Democracy; The Free Silver Movement and Inflation; Supply and Demand Online Course; GDP and Pizza; and The Great Depression. The Silver Award was given to the No-Frills Money Skills video series and the Circular Flow episode of the Economic Lowdown Video Series.


Our award-winning curriculum, online courses, videos, podcasts, professional development for teachers and the new Inside the Economy Museum are among the reasons the St. Louis Fed was selected by The Institute for Financial Literacy to receive its 2015 award for Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE). The Institute's mission is to promote effective financial education and counseling, and with its annual EIFLE award, it honors individuals and institutions that demonstrate exceptional innovation, dedication and commitment to the field of financial literacy education.


Ragan Communications has named the St. Louis Fed as the winner of its Corporate Social Responsibility Award in the Best Education/Scholarship Program category. In a summary published in Ragan's PR Daily newsletter, staff from the St. Louis Fed's Research, Economic Education and Public Affairs departments, as well as the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion, were credited for "innovative and comprehensive approaches to expanding economic and financial literacy." Among the offerings cited were Economic Education's Econ Lowdown resources and the Bank's Inside the Economy Museum.


Two videos produced by the St. Louis Fed were selected for honors at the 2014 AVA Digital Awards. "Get Into Stocks," from the No-Frills Money Skills series, received a Platinum Award—the AVA's highest honor—in the category of Creativity (Web/Video)/Art Direction. The "Circular Flow" episode from the Economic Lowdown series earned a Gold Award in the Video for Web/Informational category. The AVA Digital Awards are administered and judged each year by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.


Econ Lowdown (formerly "Econ Ed Online Learning"), our collection of online economic and personal finance courses, was honored with an Award of Excellence from Tech & Learning magazine in 2011 and 2012. Econ Lowdown brings lessons on money, banking, economics, and personal finance to life for high school and college students and consumers with interactive lesson plans and podcasts.
