Activities are under way for the 1999 Direct Deposit and Direct Payment campaign! Billboards, bus signs, airport signage and marketing materials sported the new national logo throughout the District. The heaviest marketing occurred in August and September, but you can still see some materials and signs through the end of the year.

The Automated Payments partnership is heading the campaign again this year. This marketing and educational alliance was created to help the use of electronic payments grow among financial institutions, businesses and consumers.

The Partnership uses a variety of sales and marketing tools to actively promote the use of Direct Deposit and Direct Payment, as well as encourage financial institutions and companies to market electronic payments to their constituencies.

For the 1999 campaign, most of the signs feature the new Direct Deposit and Direct Payment logo and a golfer in a sandpit. Signs on buses, billboards and in airports appeared throughout the District in the following cities:

Bentonville, Ark.

  • Airport sign in August and September

Little Rock, Ark.

  • Bus posters throughout the city until October

Louisville, Ky.

  • Ten billboards through September in various locations
  • Airport sign in Concourse B throughout September

Memphis, Tenn.

  • Airport sign in Northwest terminal the rest of the year
  • Billboard on Interstate 40, north of Covington Pike, in September
  • Bus posters throughout the city in August and September

St. Louis, Mo.

  • Billboard on Interstate 170 at St. Charles Rock Road in August and on Interstate 44 at Jefferson in September

Toward the end of August, the Partnership tried a new marketing method to reach companies and consumers by placing an insert, featuring a marketing materials order form, in the St. Louis and Springfield, Mo., business journals.

Like past campaigns, financial institutions can order colorful brochures, statement inserts, posters and table tents for both Direct Deposit and Direct Payment. These marketing materials target various groups, including consumers, companies and their employees. So, take advantage of this free and easy way to promote electronic payments to your customers!

With the national and regional mass media campaigns in progress, now is an excellent time to begin or continue to promote Direct Deposit and Direct Payment. If you have not ordered any of the materials, please take advantage of this opportunity to obtain free items to distribute and display during the next few months.

We mailed a letter and marketing materials order form to all Eighth District financial institutions in mid-August. If you have yet to receive an order form, contact Cheryl McCarthy in St. Louis at (314) 444-8459. For more news on the Partnership, check out the web site at www.appartnership.org.
