Community colleges play an important role in the U.S. education system, a report released by the St. Louis Fed finds. Whether it is displaced workers looking to upgrade their skills or first-time students realizing the value of increasing their employment options, community colleges are essential in helping to absorb the increasing number of students. Natalia Kolesnikova, an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, analyzed the role community college education plays in the overall U.S. post-secondary education system.
