St. Louis Fed Earns Perfect Score on Corporate Equality Index

January 23, 2020

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Fed received a perfect score of 100 on the Corporate Equality Index for its demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace culture. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people.

For the fourth year in a row, the inclusive culture at the St. Louis Fed has been recognized. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation has again designated the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

“This is one of the few awards where we wouldn’t want to be alone at the top,” said Karen Branding, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and executive sponsor of the Bank's Central Pride employee resource group. “We’re among hundreds of organizations nationwide that now operate with the kinds of policies, practices and culture that earn this top-score distinction, and we can be really proud of that.”

The 2020 index evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.

Genevieve Podleski, Central Pride’s co-chair and senior analyst in Research publications said, “We should be most proud of the fact that the Bank is consistently named a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ equality even though the goals are higher every year. It shows that the Bank is constantly striving to be a more supportive and equal place to work—just as we work to excel in all our other areas of operation.”

She added, “It’s also awesome to see that we’re in step with the corporate leaders throughout the Eighth District: If you look at the full report, you find more than a dozen District corporations that also earned 100%, including companies represented on our board of directors, and a number of other organizations in the region received scores of 90% or above.”

The St. Louis Fed joins the ranks of more than 680 U.S. businesses that earned top marks this year. For more information on the 2020 Corporate Equality Index, or to download the report, visit www.hrc.org/cei.
