Dorothy Savarese — chairman, president and CEO of The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank in Orleans, Mass. — gives the keynote address at the inaugural community banking research conference, “Community Banking in the 21st Century,” hosted by the St. Louis Fed and the Conference of State Bank Supervisors. Savarese addresses concerns about the impact of new regulation on community banks, calling for support from the industry and for a tiered regulatory approach to regulating community banks. She also addresses the strengths of community banks, such as their knowledge of the communities they serve and their ability to customize products to fit customer needs.
