Mary Clare's favorite resources are listed below.

  • Lifetime Inflation Activity
This online activity shows how to use FRED®, the Federal Reserve's free economic data website, to measure changes in the cost of living over your lifetime. Following simple instructions, you will locate the overall level of U.S. consumer prices as it existed on your birth date. You will then compare that level with the level today to see how prices have inflated during your lifetime. FRED's ability to create a graph with a custom index scale will allow you to visualize the rise in prices over your lifetime.

  • What Is GDP and How Do We Measure It
This lesson helps to clear up common confusion about how imports affect a country’s gross domestic product (GDP). (Spoiler alert: They don’t!) In this lesson, students learn the definition of GDP and the composition of the expenditure categories of GDP. They participate in an active learning demonstration of the GDP expenditure equation [GDP = C + I + G + (X – M)] to understand the relationships among the variables and the effect of changes in aggregate spending on GDP.

  • Econ Lowdown Teacher Portal
Bring economics lessons to life for your students with videos, online modules and more from the St. Louis Fed. Teachers can create classrooms, add students and auto-grade assignments with the Econ Lowdown Teacher Portal. It integrates with Canvas, too!

  • The Amazing $2,000 Pizza
How does a pizza cost $2,000? Watch this video as a cautionary tale to find out. This video from the Continuing Feducation series emphasizes the importance of using credit cards responsibly.
